Punjab has contributed to Hindi journalism’s growth: Speakers

A seminar on Punjab’s contribution to Hindi journalism was organised at DAV College here today.

Speakers at the seminar were of the view that the state has contributed immensely to the growth of Hindi journalism.

In his address, Dr Vinod Kumar Taneja, former head of the Hindi department of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), said, “The Hindi newspaper, ‘Chand’, used to be published from Lahore in 1908 by its editor Charandas. Before ‘Chand’, Balmukund Gupt had published ‘Kohinoor’ in 1888, Jagat Asha had started publishing a newspaper in 1875 and Chandradaya used to be published from Rawalpindi.”

He added that these newspapers had not only contributed to Hindi journalism but also served the cause of liberating the nation.

Former Deputy Director of Akashwani Jalandhar Balwinder Attri also addressed the students on the occasion. DAV College principal Dr Rajesh Kumar and vice-principal of the college Dr Vishva Bandhu interactedwith the gathering and shared their views.
