Amritsar, December 10

Members of the Amritsar Distributors’ Association held a meeting with the district health officer to discuss various problems faced by them here today.

Association president Anil Kapoor said distributors worked with multinational companies and other firms which already had licences from the government. “As such asking food distributors to get licenses under Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA) is unnecessary,” he said.

General secretary Amarpreet Singh said that for getting a licences under the FSSA, they had to pay an annual fee of Rs 2,000. He said that it would be better if the government waives off the fee and reduces formalities for getting annual licence. The firms with an annual turnover of Rs 12 lakh are required to get licence while those under the limit have to get registered only.

District Health Officer, Dr Lakhbir Singh Bhaghowalia who was present in the meeting stated that demanded of the association would be conveyed to the higher-ups.
