Amritsar, February 19

Four unknown persons barged into a garment showroom and snatched nearly Rs 1 lakh from the outlet manager late on Saturday evening.

Gurmeet Singh, the manager, told the police that the accused were equipped with a pistol and sharp-edged weapons. He said he was counting the cash at around 10 pm before closing the showroom. Two other employees were getting ready for the closure when the accused with covered faces entered the showroom. They had come on two motorcycles. They immediately took out a pistol, pointed it at the manager and took the entire cash from the cash box and fled away.

Civil Lines SHO Shiv Darshan Singh said CCTV cameras of the neighbouring shops were being scrutinised for getting clues about the suspects. He said several persons had been detained for investigation.

Ironically, the CCTV cameras installed at the garment showroom are not operational. The police have registered a case under Section 379-B of the IPC. Police officials said they were confident of identifying the accused. They will be behind bars soon, they added.
