Amritsar: The annual general meeting of the Income Tax Practitioners’ Association elected Sanjay Kapoor as their president on Tuesday. The meeting was held by outgoing secretary Mandeep Singh, under the presidentship of outgoing president Amrik Singh Malhotra. New office-bearers include Vinod Mehra as vice-president, Amandeep Singh Lamba as secretary and Sunil Mehra as joint secretary. Sanjay Kapoor is the board director of Oriental Bank of Commerce, and also the chairman of its audit committee. Socially active and philanthropist, he is also associated with Citizen Forum Vidyamandir, an NGO that was started by late Brij Bedi. TNS
Four booked for cheating
The Civil Lines police have booked four persons for allegedly duping a city resident of Rs 1 lakh on the pretext of recording his song. Jai Inder Singh said said in his complaint to the police that the accused took money and assured him to get his song recorded, but they didn’t keep his promise. The accused have been identified as Mitesh of Mumbai, Kulbir Gujar of Moti Nagar in Delhi, Tikka Singh and Nitin Talwar, local residents. They have been booked under Sections 420 and 120B of the IPC and Section 66D of the Information Technology Act. TNS
House burgled
Thieves struck at a house in the city and decamped with cash and gold ornaments worth lakhs of rupees. The incident took place on Saturday when the house owner, Gourav Kapoor, along with his family, had gone to his sister’s house. He said when they returned next day, they found inner doors of the house opened and locks of almirah broken. The Sadar police have registered a case of theft. TNS
