The Aam Adami Party candidate from Amritsar (East) constituency, Sarbjot Singh (36), will be contesting against heavy weight Congress candidate Navjot Singh Sidhu. Although, Sarbjot is not much familiar face in the constituency, he is confident of defeating his rivals. He is in a triangular fight involving Congress candidate Navjot Singh Sidhu and the BJP-SAD candidate, Rajesh Kumar Honey.

“I don’t have any political background. No one from my family ever thought of contesting elections. I joined the party in 2012 to end the corrupt politics. The party awarded me with a ticket.

He said, “I am contesting for the change and for a better society. So, I don’t care who is in front of me. I care, who are along with me. I respect common people, who are campaigning for the AAP.”

Reacting on the rival candidates he said, “I am aware that both my rivals are resourceful. Sidhu is multi-millionaire and Honey is also wealthy. But, I have an ideology. We want to bring a change. I have support of common people in the area. From last one week, I am going door- to-door for campaigning. There is no need to spend lakhs on elections. If people find their better future in you, they will elect you.”

“Residents of the East constituency have been struggling for basic facilities, including potable water and sewerage. Villagers from Verka and Wallah have been residing in pathetic conditions. Political parties have failed to provide health facilities and education to residents. So, my fight is for people not against any politician,” he added.

Sarbjot said he was getting support from each and every family member and friends. “My father Sukhdev Singh, mother, wife, daughter, maternal parents and every relative has been campaigning for me. I have a large friend circle and everyone is making best efforts,” he added.
