Seminar lays stress on green sensitivity in planning buildings

A two-day training programme on ‘Green sense: Framework for sustainable development’ is being organized by the Faculty of Physical Planning and Architecture of Guru Nanank Dev University (GNDU) in collaboration with the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), Delhi. The training programme is an outcome of an MoU (memorandum of understanding) signed between the CSE and the Faculty of Physical Planning and Architecture of the university.

As many as 120 teachers, researchers and students participated in the seminar. Technical experts from the CSE are delivering lectures on spatial aspects and guidelines of the government to build quality environment. Prof SS Behl, Dean, Students’ Welfare, was the chief guest at the training programme. In his inaugural address, Prof Behl stressed on green sensitivity in planning localities and buildings.

“Planning should be done keeping in view the five basic elements i.e. sunlight, air, water, earth and sky. Human beings are capable of creating and destroying the environment and this training session shall sensitise and train the participants about sustainability challenges and energy efficient buildings,” he said.

Dr Karamjit Singh Chahal, Dean, Faculty, welcomed the participants and spoke about planning and designing with due consideration on sustainability. Prof Aswani Luthra, Kiran Sandhu, head of the department, Guru Ramdass School of Planning and Meenakshi, head of the department of architecture, were also present at the inaugural session of the training programme.
