Seven booked as pet dog poisoned to death

AMRITSAR: In a bizarre incident, the Amritsar rural police have booked seven persons for allegedly killing a pet dog by offering him eatable laced with poison.

In a bizarre incident, the Amritsar rural police have booked seven persons for allegedly killing a pet dog by offering him eatable laced with poison.

Land dispute between two groups is stated to be the reason behind the incident.

Those booked were identified as Rajwinder Singh, his brother Balwinder Singh, Santokh Singh and his brother Angrej Singh, Jodhvir Singh, his brother Kuldip Singh of Bhakha Hari Singh village and Navjot Singh of Sudhar village.

Sahibjit Singh, a farmer and the owner of the dog, lodged a complaint with the Ajnala police in this connection. A resident of Bhakha Hari Singh village, he alleged that he had kept cows and buffaloes at his residence and they had a pet dog for the security of these animals.

He alleged that on Tuesday evening at around 10 pm, the accused killed the dog (pitbull breed) by poisoning him. Following his complaint, the police registered a case under section 428, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC besides section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty towards Animals Act.

Paramvir Singh, SHO, Ajnala police station, said it was a bailable offence. He said the complainant had a verbal duel with the accused over a land dispute. He saw the accused committing the crime. He said the post-mortem of the dog was conducted and further investigations have been initiated.
