SGPC drive receives good response

AMRITSAR: Under the SGPC’s ‘dharam parchar’ campaign, thousands of Sikhs partook of ‘Amrit Sanchar’ (baptism) at various places to mark the Khalsa Sirjana Divas.

Under the SGPC’s ‘dharam parchar’ campaign, thousands of Sikhs partook of ‘Amrit Sanchar’ (baptism) at various places to mark the Khalsa Sirjana Divas.

Diljit Singh Bedi, additional secretary, SGPC, said ‘panj pyaras’ (five beloved ones), accompanying the pilgrimage to Pakistan to commemorate the occasion, performed the ‘Amrit Sanchar’ ceremony at Gurdwara Panja Sahib, where 101 persons volunteered to join.

Around 1,300 Sikhs were baptised in the ceremony at the Akal Takht, 4,500 at Takht Kesgarh Sahib and 2,204 at Takht Damdama Sahib. Apart from this, 208 Sikhs at Gurdwara Charnkanwal Sahib in Machhiwara, 247 at Gurdwara Ber Sahib in Sultanpur Lodhi, 236 at Gurdwara Garna Sahib in Hoshiarpur, 138 at Chamkaur Sahib Gurdwara, 178 at Gurdwara Bhatha Sahib, 470 at Gurdwara Manji Sahib and 151 at Gurdwara Tahliana Sahib, Raikot, were also baptised.

Similarly, as per information received from Sikh Mission, UP in-charge Brij Pal Singh, 168 Sikhs joined the ‘amritpaan’ ceremony in Bilaspur. Mangpreet Singh, in-charge, Sikh Mission, Haryana, said 164 Sikhs in Kapal Mochan, 120 in Karnal, 68 in Asandh and 148 at Gurdwara Nadha Sahib and 45 in Kurukshetra also participated in similar ceremony.

Giani Sarwan Singh, in-charge, Jammu Sikh Mission, said 221 Sikhs in Naushehra were part of the ceremony whereas Harjinder Singh, in-charge, Uttrakhand Mission, confirmed that 19 persons in Haldwani took part in amritpaan ceremony.
