SHO, three more cops suspended

TARN TARAN: Inspector Sukhinder Singh, the SHO, Goindwal Sahib, and three more policemen have been suspended for negligence in duty relating to the bank robbery at the Punjab National Bank branch, Jamarai, 30 km from here, on Wednesday.

Inspector Sukhinder Singh, the SHO, Goindwal Sahib, and three more policemen have been suspended for negligence in duty relating to the bank robbery at the Punjab National Bank branch, Jamarai, 30 km from here, on Wednesday.

Police sources said the other policemen suspended were ASI Lakhwinder Singh, in charge of the police post, Fatehbad, head constable Gurbhej Singh Munshi of the Goindwal Sahib police station, and head constable Bhupinder Singh, who was deputed as the security guard of the bank, but he remained absent from duty.

Four armed robbers had robbed cash amounting to Rs. 7.63 lakh in the incident.

Senior Superintendent of Police Darshan Singh Mann who had visited the spot had hinted that stern action would be taken against the erring policemen. The suspension orders of the policemen were issued the same day. The bank was situated on the road in a village in the Mand area, which was a hot bed of militants during the days of militancy. The bank had no security guard at the time of the incident. However, the CCTV cameras of the bank have recorded the whole incident, showing clear faces of the robbers.
