Amritsar, June 25

Alert police personnel today arrested six members of the alleged Hariya and Bobby Malhotra gangs who had converged near Bhagtanwala grain market here today. The police had got information that the suspects had gathered for some gang war.

Though some of their accomplices had managed to escape from the spot, the police recovered sharp weapons from their possession. Deputy Commissioner of Police (investigation) Jagmohan Singh has confirmed their arrest.

Their interrogation was underway to nab the remaining culprits, he said.

Amrik Singh, SHO, Division C police station, said the police had received specific input that members of the Hariya and Bobby Malhotra gangs were gathering near the grain market for a gang war. Immediately, a raid was conducted. Among those arrested include Vishal, alias Lalla, and Sunny, alias Bhaga, both brothers of Hariya, who was shot dead by Bobby Malhotra over a year ago.

The preliminary probe revealed that the accused were hiding at a residence in Mulechak village. The police had also taken the owner of the house in their custody for investigation, he said.

The two gangs had earlier clashed on June 17. However, when police teams had reached the spot they pelted bricks and stones at them leading to an injury to ASI Vijay Kumar. The police had then booked Bobby Malhotra, his father Lalli, alias Kira, and his accomplices.

The Hariya and Bobby Malhotra gang had a long-time enmity. Bobby and his accomplices had shot Hariya dead in 2016 a few metres away from the Division B police station. At present, Bobby was in jail. He was nabbed by the Special Task Force that was constituted by the SAD-BJP government to nail notorious gangsters thriving in the state.
