The Counter-Intelligence in a joint operation with the city police have arrested Ranjit Singh alias Jitu, reportedly a former railway employee along with two other persons.
Ranjit Singh was dismissed from the department for his involvement in smuggling. He was currently on bail. The police have seized a pistol from his possession, it is learnt. However, no police official was divulging the details of their arrest.
Ranjit Singh was booked by the State Special Operation Cell in 2014 in connection with a seizure of heroin. However, he was arrested by the cell in 2015. He was lodged in jail and was on bail at present.
The other two accused arrested by the police were identified as Sandeep Singh, son of Nirmal Singh of Abadi Rasulpur Kallar, and Daljit Singh of Khera Sultan village in Gurdaspur. Police sources said that Sandeep was a gangster and was wanted in many cases.
The police have registered a case under Sections 21, 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act and Sections 25, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act besides Section 41 (1) of the CrPC in this connection.
Didar Singh, SHO, Mohkampura police station, said that the case was registered on the information provided by the Counter-Intelligence and he did not know further details.
