Amritsar, May 20

With a focus on checking the burning of crop residue after harvesting the agricultural fields, the Agriculture Department has amended its policy of giving implements to farmers on subsidy by including essential straw management implements in the category.

As per the new policy, farmers can get paddy straw chopper, reversible plough, razor blade planter and other equipment among the existing list of implements, such as zero till drill, baler and laser land leveller.

District Agriculture Officer Dalbir Singh Chinna said, “The department has planned to give implements on subsidy which can be used for better straw management so that the farmers don’t have to burn the crop residue.”

Farmers can submit their applications to their block agriculture officers till May 30. The department would directly transfer the subsidy to the farmers’ bank account to avoid misuse of funds. — TNS
