The Union Government’s Swachh City ranking team is currently on a visit to the city. The three-member team has been collecting required documents from the MC office regarding the civic body claims about the the sanitation infrastructure in the city. The team includes Controller Parminder Singh, Chief Assessor and state in-charge Ranbir Singh.
The team has been evaluating the documents and uploading the same to a web portal for further evaluation. The final evaluation and compression would be conducted in New Delhi to assign ranks to cities.
Meanwhile, another inspection team of the Centre is also in the city but no one is aware about their location. MC officials said the inspection team would visit all localities of the city and prepare a detailed report. The report will be matched with the claims of the MC in New Delhi. The confidential team will also get feedback from residents about the sanitation. The feedback of residents would also contribute in the ranking.
MC officials claimed that they had been making serious efforts to make the city neat and clean and they hoped that the city’s ranking would improve this time.
Dr Raju Chowan, Municipal Health Officer, said, “The ranking of the city will be improved definitely. The MC has improved the infrastructure as per the guidelines of the Swachh Bharat Mission. We don’t have required infrastructure for solid waste management. It can affect the ranking.”
Last year, the city had bagged 280th rank among 435 cities of the country. This time the government has conducted the survey of 4,000 cities. This is said to be the world’s largest survey. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has been conducting this survey to improve the urban sanitation since 2016.
