Amritsar, April 17

Three unidentified robbers took away mobile phones worth Rs 22 lakh from a firm outside New Amritsar on the GT road on Monday night. However, the police suspect that the store manager has concocted the story to get insurance claim.

The firm assembles mobiles of DataWind company. According to the manager, one of the guards, Karamjit Singh, was on night duty when three persons, equipped with iron rods, came in the night hours and demanded keys of the office room. When Karamjit denied, they tied him and took the keys forcefully. They took away 525 mobiles, 120 tablets and two laptops, causing a loss of Rs 22 lakh to the firm.

Senior police officials have recorded the statements of the guard and the manager.

Sultanwind SHO Neeraj Kumar said, “There is something fishy. The statements of the guard and the company don’t match. Earlier, the same company had failed a complaint of theft. We suspect that the company manger has cooked up the story to get insurance claims. We have registered a case of theft. The matter is being investigated from all angles.”
