Three booked for thrashing elderly man

AMRITSAR: The rural police have booked three persons, including president of a gurudwara committee, for allegedly thrashing, pulling the beard and tossing the turban of an elderly over a dispute regarding gurudwara ‘golak’.

The rural police have booked three persons, including president of a gurudwara committee, for allegedly thrashing, pulling the beard and tossing the turban of an elderly over a dispute regarding gurudwara ‘golak’.

Those booked have been identified as Gurmukh Singh, president of Gurudwara Sahib Kalgidhar Singh Sabha, at Kaler village, his nephew Sukha Singh and kin Lalli Singh. The incident occurred on April 10 and the complaint was lodged on Sunday.

Complainant Gurmej Singh (85) of Kaler village said one Mohinder Singh told him that Gurmukh Singh had taken the gurdwara golak to his residence. He said he along with Surinder Singh, Darshan Singh and Salwinder Singh went to his house and asked about the golak.

“Infuriated over it, Gurmukh pulled my beard while Sukha slapped me and tossed my turban,” he alleged.

The villagers unsuccessfully tried to strike a compromise between the two.

A case under has been registered. No arrest has been made so far, the police added.
