The district police busted a gang of robbers, arresting three youths, on Sunday. Identified as Jobanjit Singh, Gurmukh Singh and Balraj Singh Ballu, they have been involved in snatchings, robberies and illicit drug trade. Their six accomplices, including Gurdev Singh and Amritpal Singh, managed to flee.
Darshan Singh Mann, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Tarn Taran, said two .32 bore country made pistols, 11 cartridges, 570 gm of heroin, 820 intoxicating tablets and two stolen bikes were seized from them. He said one of the accused, Gurmukh Singh, had been sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment in connection with a murder case. He was released on parol for a month but didn't return.
Balraj Singh and Jobanjit Singh are wanted in six cases registered at different police stations in the state, Mann said. The accused were involved in a number of snatching, robbery and theft cases. They were arrested at a police checkpoint near the Plasaur drain.
Meanwhile, Director General of Police (DGP) Suresh Arora, who was on a visit to Amritsar on Sunday, appreciated the efforts of SSP Darshan Singh Mann and Sukhraj Singh, Station House Officer (SHO), Chohla Sahib.
A case under Sections 399, 402, 379, 411 of the IPC, 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act, and 21, 22, 61, 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against them.
