Wheat lifting picking up pace, says DC

AMRITSAR: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kamaldeep Singh Sanga on Saturday said that the procurement of wheat had been increasing in the district.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kamaldeep Singh Sanga on Saturday said that the procurement of wheat had been increasing in the district. On Friday, the grain markets in the district received 26,344 metric tonnes of wheat. The procurement agencies have procured 18,455 metric tonnes and 7,889 metric tonnes is still laying unsold in the markets.

He said payments were being made on the spot. “We are focusing on payment to farmers. A total of Rs 9.38 crore has been paid to farmers. We have given directions to the procurement agencies to pay the farmers on the spot,” said Sangha.

According to the DC, the administration had been making sincere efforts for lifting the crop immediately after procurement. He expressed satisfaction over the availability of basic facilities, such as access to potable water and toilets at the grain markets.

The officials concerned have been instructed to ensure no hassles to farmers.
