The newly elected MLA from Attari, Tarsem Singh DC, has promised residents that he will address the problem of narrow bridges on defence drains alongside the Indo-Pak Border on a priority.

In September 2016, seven school students were killed when a bus fell in a defence drain. Tarsem DC claimed that he had assured residents that he would widen bridges at any cost. Now, it is time to fulfil their demand.

In general, Tarsem Singh DC feels that the drug mafia had spread its tentacles in the border area. He said, “I have started making efforts to curb drugs in my constituency.”

“We have made announcements in gurdwaras that no one will be spared if found involved in drugs. We have made it clear to all our leaders that they cannot shelter smugglers and pressurise the Police Department when officials take action against drug smugglers,” said Tarsem Singh DC.

“There are three police stations in my constituency. I have asked police officials not to exempt anyone if found selling or consuming drugs,” he added.

“The police already know culprits, who sell drugs. Now, no one is sheltering them. So, drug peddlers will be behind bars soon,” he said.

The MLA also claimed that the condition of roads and streets in rural area was pathetic. “There are some villages, including Mahal and Dingra Colony, where it is like hell. Leaders did not use a single penny of government grant. We will give funds to such villages on a priority. We will also check how the amount sanctioned earlier was spent,” he added.

Showing concern about education and health Tarsem Singh DC said girl students dropped out after Matric in the border area. Due to long distance from the city girls in were unable to join college, he added. “I will make efforts to get a Government Degree College in any border village,” he said.

“Similarly, rural dispensaries have to be revived. The basic test and treatment should be available at these dispensaries. We will make sure that doctors and other staff is deployed in all rural dispensaries,” he added.
