A resident of the Fatehgarh Churian road, Sudesh Kumari, was tricked by a few persons, including a woman, on the pretext of doubling her ornaments and cash. Although the police has registered a case in this connection, there has been no breakthrough so far.
The victim stated to the police that she runs a general store in the area with her residence on the first floor. She said yesterday at 2.30 pm, when she was sitting outside her shop, a 40-year-old person dressed as a ‘Baba’ (saint) came and demanded agarbati (incense sticks). In the meantime, an elderly lady with a boy came and prayed to baba for doubling her money and gold jewellery as he had done before.
Sudesh said she fell into their trap and gave the accused her gold ring and ear rings, besides Rs 3,500 from the cash box. The baba asked Sudesh to wash her face. By the time she returned the swindlers had disappeared from the spot on their motorcycle.
A case has been registered under Sections 420 and 120-of the B IPC in this regard at the Civil Lines police station.
