Woman killed as auto-rickshaw hits her

AMRITSAR: A woman lost her life after a speeding auto-rickshaw hit her near the Gwalmandi chowk while she was crossing the road.

A woman lost her life after a speeding auto-rickshaw hit her near the Gwalmandi chowk while she was crossing the road.

The deceased was identified as Amrik Kaur (55). The deceased’s son Sukhwinder Singh stated to the police that they had gone to Bhullar village in Chaugawan to mourn the death of a relative. He said at around 3.30 pm, they returned in a bus and were crossing the road near Bhagwan Valmiki Chowk when the speeding auto-rickshaw hit his mother.

Amrik Kaur sustained multiple injuries and she was immediately taken to a private hospital for treatment. She succumbed to her injuries in the evening. Later, the accused was identified as Iqbal Singh, son of Mukhtar Singh of Indira Colony in the Kot Khalsa area.

Investigating officer Nirmal Singh said the accused has been arrested and a case under Sections 304-A and 279, IPC, has been registered against him.

Meanwhile, in another incident, two persons were injured when a speeding car hit their scooter near Metro on the Amritsar-Attari bypass road here on March 15. However, a case was registered only yesterday when all efforts to reach a compromise failed.

The victims, identified as Rohit Kumar and Rahul, were currently recuperating in a private hospital. The accused driver of the car was identified as Keshav Agarwal of Basant Avenue. The police have registered a case against him while no arrest has been made so far.
