Aiming to enabling the Child Welfare Officers designated at the police stations to perform their duties more effectively, the city police organised a ‘workshop on Juvenile justice’ at the Police Lines here today.

The workshop was attended by police officers who were designated as Child Welfare Officers at each police station. They were sensitised about dealing with children who are either victims or perpetrators.

Gagandeep Garg, Judicial Magistrate-cum-Principal Magistrate, Juvenile Justice Board, was the chief guest. He gave detailed presentation and explaination to the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and the role of police in implementation of the Act.

Amandeep Kaur, Legal Probation Officer, and Pawandeep Kaur, Child Protection Officer, were also present. They urged the police officers to popularise the 24-hour child helpline 1098 which has been launched to help children in need of care and protection.

ADCP Gautam Singhal said under Section 107 of the Juvenile Justice Act, a special juvenile police unit has been formed and police officers of SI or ASI rank have been designated at each police station as Child Welfare Officers.
