Amritsar, October 13

A teenage girl was allegedly raped by a youth who, on the pretext of dropping her at home, took her to a guest house and committed the crime.

The victim (17) belonged to Yamunanagar in Haryana and had come to visit her grandmother in the Islamabad area. She reportedly met the suspect, a taxi driver, outside the local railway station. The suspect was identified as Gurpreet Singh. Though the incident occurred on August 5, the girl lodged a complaint only yesterday.

According to her, she arrived in the holy city on August 4 and hired a taxi for Golden Temple from outside the railway station. After paying obeisance, when she came back, the same taxi driver was waiting there. She took the taxi to go to the Islamabad area where her grandmother resided.

However, she alleged that the suspect took her to a guest house and raped her. Later, he dumped her. She said she returned to Yamunanagar and narrated the entire incident to her mother.

They returned to Amritsar yesterday and lodged a complaint with the Division C police station. Amrik Singh, SHO, said a case under Sections 363 (kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping and compelling or inducing a woman for marriage) and 376 (rape) of the IPC and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act had been registered. He said the investigations were under progress.

He said they were trying to locate the taxi driver and the guest house where the suspect raped the girl. Sub- Inspector Tejinder Kaur was deputed as the investigating officer in the case, he added.
