Youth fest begins at Khalsa varsity

Amritsar: Colourful functions and various competitions in fine arts, poetry, rangoli, poster-making, debates and elocution today marked the Inter-Khalsa Colleges Youth Festival.



Amritsar: Colourful functions and various competitions in fine arts, poetry, rangoli, poster-making, debates and elocution today marked the Inter-Khalsa Colleges Youth Festival. The festival is being organised at Khalsa University campus here. Hundreds of students from 13 Khalsa Colleges will be competing in at least 25 events during the three-day festival. Bhangra, giddha, fancy dress, mimicry, skits, group discussions, kawishri, paintings, shabad gayan, poetry and cartooning will be major attractions during the festival. Khalsa College Governing Council honorary secretary and KU Pro-Chancellor Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina inaugurated the event. While welcoming participants, who arrived from all over the state, he said the youth festival was started last year to provide a platform to students to showcase their talent. Earlier, Principal of Khalsa College of Education and KU registrar, Dr Jaswinder Singh Dhillon, welcomed guests. He said on seeing growth in number of colleges in the past decade the decision was taken to arrange in-house youth festival for providing students an opportunity to show their talent. Khalsa College for Women Principal, Dr Sukhbir Kaur Mahal, Khalsa College of Pharmacy Principal, Dr RK Dhawan, Dr SK Jand, Dr SP Kaur Dhillon and Dr Jaspal Singh were also present on the occasion. — TNS
