A fire broke out at the local grain market here today. Around 10 quintals of cotton gutted.
Farmers and traders present at the grain market controlled the fire with the help of fire tenders. The estimated cost of cotton that gutted is Rs 50,000. The rest of the cotton also turned black.
Victim farmer Jasveer Singh, a resident of Jassi Paun Wali village, said he came here to sell his cotton yield. He said now, no one was showing interest to purchase his yield.
Farmer Raj Krishan and Mohinder Singh, who helped control the fire, said there was no arrangement at the grain market for controlling the fire. Officials of the Agricultural Department and administration visited the grain market after the incident. Local traders said the officials concerned were responsible for such kind of incidents as they allow trucks to stop under six sheds, which were constructed to keep yields. — TNS
