BATHINDA: An 11- year-old girl and a woman were killed in a road accident after a Verna car hit a Maruti car from the rear at Hariraipur village on Saturday morning.

Bathinda, April 21

An 11- year-old girl and a woman were killed in a road accident after a Verna car hit a Maruti car from the rear at Hariraipur village on Saturday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Kaushalya Devi (45) and Mamta (11), both residents of Nathana.

Five persons were injured in the mishap. The Nehianwala police booked two persons, including the Verna car’s driver.

The accused also got injured in the mishap, but they managed to run away.

The accused have been identified as Sandeep Singh and Sukhdev Singh.

According to the police, the accident took place when the Verna car made an attempt to overtake the Maruti car.

Police sources said Kaushalya Devi along with her daughter Suneha and five other persons, including Mamta (11) and Pooja (all neighbours), was traveling to Nathana in the Maruti car.

They said as their car turned towards the Bajakhana road, the Verna car hit their car.

Thereafter, they were taken to a local hospital where doctors declared Kashalya and Mamta brought dead.

Narjeet Singh, investigating officer, said a case under Sections 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) had been registered against Sandeep Singh and Sukdev Singh on the complaint of Chiman Lal, a resident of Goniana.

The police officer said the accused would be arrested soon.
