Bathinda, February 20
The Central University of Punjab (CUP), Bathinda, conducted its two-day 5th annual sports and athletics meet on February 18 and 19. Various track and field events including girls 100 m race and boys100 m race were organised on the first day of the meet. Besides, 50 m race for female faculty staff and 80 m race for male faculty staff, shot put, and several fun games were organised, in which faculty members and students took part.
On the second day of the event, Arti Yadav won gold in 100 metre race. In 400 m etre race (boys) Fameel got gold medal; in 200 m (boys) Fameel also bagged the first position; in long jump (girls) Navjotpreet won gold medal. In long jump (boys) Picky got gold medal; in short put (boys) Sumit Kumar won gold medal. In the girls volleyball match Blue team won gold medal; in discus throw (girls), Himani Sharma won gold and Rakesh Ghosh (boys) clinched gold medal. Other events such as boys’ football match, boys’ kabaddi match and tug-of-war were also held.
Avneet Kaur Sidhu, an Arjuna awardee shooter was the chief guest on the concluding day of the event. She felicitated the winners with medals and trophies.
Prof RK Kohli, Vice-Chancellor, (CUP) felicitated the chief guest with a memento. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr AK Dhawan, dean, students welfare.
