Bathinda: Two labourers were killed after a tractor-trailer overturned at Kalyan Sukha village under the Nathana police station on Tuesday. Post-mortem of the bodies was conducted at the Civil Hospital here. The deceased have been identified as Iqbal Singh and Makhan Singh, both residents of Kalyan Sukha village. Village sarpanch Harpal Singh said the accident occurred when Makhan Singh, who wasn’t a trained driver, was driving the tractor. He said Iqbal Singh was a trained driver but Makhan reportedly insisted that he would drive the tractor. He, however, lost control while taking a turn near a low-lying agricultural field. They were declared dead on reaching hospital. Nathana SHO Krishan Kumar said the bodies were handed over to their families after post-mortem. Proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC have been initiated. TNS

Rs 1.50 lakh stolen from shop

Bathinda: Unidentified person have stolen Rs 1.50 from a shop near Gurdwara Singh Sabha. A case under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC has been registered at the Kotwali police station. In a complaint lodged by Jeevan Kumar, a resident of Basant Vihar, Bathinda, it has been stated that he has a garments shop called Pooja Garments near Singh Sabha Gurdwara. Last night, unidentified persons stole Rs 1.50 from his shop, he said. Sukhjinder Singh, ASI at the Kotwali police station, said they were checking the CCTV footage of markets. In another case, the Rampura (City) police have booked four persons, including three unidentified, for stealing cash and jewellery from a house. Surinder Sharma, a resident of Rampura, has lodged a complaint stating that Lucky, a resident of Rampura, and three unidentified persons had stolen a box, which was carrying Rs 9,000, mobile phone and silver ornaments. Two arrested for thefts

Bathinda: Officials of the CIA-1 wing have arrested two persons involved in thefts in Nandgarh and Bathinda Sadar area. The police have recovered eight gm of gold and a motorcycle. Rajinder Kumar, in-charge of CIA-1, said acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Kirpal Singh arrested Puneet Kumar and Krishan Kumar, both residents of Bathinda, from Jhuma Baho village. A case under Sections 379B, 379 and 411 of the IPC has been registered at the Bathinda Sadar police station. TNS
