Bathinda, February 17

The safai worker, who was found murdered at his house on February 4 night, was finally cremated today at Rampura.

Jiwan Ram Mamu was allegedly killed with sharp-edged weapons, as observed from the injury marks found on his body.

A large number of members of the Safai Workers Associations registered their protest against the delay in the arrest of the accused in the past week.

The protesters took out protest marches and held dharna at Rampura.

They said Mamu was living alone at his house while his son used to reside in a nearby house in the same locality — Phul Town.

Senior police officials tried to pacify the irate safai workers, who stopped picking up garbage in the town, but failed.

Finally, SSP Swapan Sharma assured the protesters of arresting the accused at the earliest after which the safai workers withdrew their protest and agreed to cremate the dead body.

The victim’s body was cremated today at Rampura Phul. A large number of people came for his cremation.

A case in this regard has already been registered against unidentified persons. Police are investigating the matter.
