After rain lashed the city last night and this morning, high humidity and bright sunshine throughout the day kept the residents inside the doors.

The city registered 93 per cent humidity. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more showers in the next couple of days in the region as clouds are coming towards the state from the west side.

The city witnessed a rainfall of 15 mm while the Goniana area received 81 mm rainfall.

The maximum temperature record today was 32.5 degree Celsius while the minimum was 21.2 degree.

Humidity level in the morning was 93 per cent while in the evening, it was 67 per cent. The wind blew at a speed of 11.9 kmph.

The 15 mm rainfall has exposed the preparedness of the civil authorities as Paras Ram Nagar road that was submerged under rainwater.

Power House road and Sirki Bazaar, which are usually submerged after every rain, didn’t see waterlogging.

Mandeep Singh, a resident of Paras Ram Nagar, said during every election, politicians make tall promises to betray the people later.

He said the major reason behind waterlogging was that proper desilting of drains and manholes had not been done in their area.

Sunil Kumar, a city resident, said if this is the situation after 15 mm rainfall, residents could imagine the condition during monsoons.

Waterlogging was also witnessed along GT Road at various points.

The pumping motor installed near the Deputy Commissioner’s residence was hit by some technical snag due to which it stopped working. However, work to repair it was initiated.
