Government Senior Secondary Residential School for Meritorious Students, Bathinda, has come up trumps among all 10 schools in the state as almost all its seats have been filled.

By the end of the second day of counselling on Friday, only 15 seats for boys in the medical stream and five seats for girls in the commerce stream were vacant while the remaining 480 seats have been filled.

For girls, there are a total of 300 seats in the school. While all 180 seats in non-medical and 60 in the medical stream have been filled, only five seats out of 60 in commerce are yet to be filled.

For boys, there are 200 seats in the schools. Of these, all 120 seats in the non-medical stream and 40 seats in the commerce stream have been filled while only 15 in the medical stream are vacant.

In all 10 meritorious schools in the state, there a total of 4,600 seats of which 1,968 have been filled till now.

Of the 2,875 seats for girls, 1,001 have been filled while 1,871 are still vacant. Of the 1,725 seats for boys, 967 have been filled while 758 are yet to be filled.

In Amritsar, of 500 seats, 413 seats are still vacant while Ferozepur and Gurdaspur schools each have 476 vacant seats at the end of the second day of counselling.

While Jalandhar has 110 vacant seats, Ludhiana has 190, Patiala has 158, Sangrur has 463 and SAS Nagar school has 226.

Government Senior Secondary Residential School for Meritorious Students in Talwara, which is only for girls and offers 50 seats each in commerce and humanities streams, has 97 vacant seats.
