Cold claims one more life, death toll reaches five in city

Cold weather conditions prevailing in Bathinda and its adjoining areas claimed one more life in the city, taking the death toll to five.

A city-based NGO received information that an unidentified person was lying unconscious on the Mall Godaam Road. When volunteers of the NGO reached the spot, they found that the person had passed away as he was not fully clothed to beat the cold wave at night. The body was taken to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem. The deceased is yet to be identified.

The NGO volunteers advised the homeless who were sleeping in the open along Mall Godam Road to spend nights at nights shelters constructed in the city.

Despite bright sunshine in the region over the past few days, the temperature has been registering a gradual decrease. The minimum temperature has fallen 5 degree Celsius. Due to the sunshine, the day temperature is still being recorded around 25 degree Celsius.

As per the data procured from the regional centre of Punjab Agriculture University here, the minimum temperature was recorded at 4.5 degree Celsius on Thursday. On Friday, it was recorded at 3.8 degree Celsius while 4.2 degree Celsius on Saturday. The maximum temperature was recorded at 22.5 degree Celsius on Thursday, 25.4 degree Celsius on Friday and 25 degree Celsius on Saturday.

As per the forecast released by the Indian Meteorological Department, the state may receive rainfall on December 11 and 12. The weather will become clear after December 14.
