The cold wave prevailing in the region took another life today. As per information released by a city-based NGO, a homeless person was found unconscious below the water tank located at Subhash Market near Gol Diggi last night.

Volunteers of the NGO took the person to the emergency ward of the Civil Hospital where he died today. The identity of the person is yet to be ascertained.

As per the data released by the Agri-Met Department of the PAU’s regional centre in Bathinda, the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.6 degree Celsius today while the maximum was 16.6 degree Celsius.

Yesterday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 2.2 degree Celsius and the maximum was 17 degree Celsius.

Although the sun shone bright throughout the day, cold winds blowing at 2 kmph from the northern Himalayan part kept the residents of the region shivering.

As per the forecast released by the regional centre for the region, similar weather conditions will prevail for the next few days.

As per the forecast released by the Indian Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in the area will be recorded around 3 degree Celsius while the maximum temperature will be around 15 degree Celsius.

The forecast also predicted that the region will experience thick fog cover during the morning hours for the next few days.

Meanwhile, farmers hope for rain as it will prove to be beneficial to the crops.

Gurmail Singh, a farmer from Sivian village in the district, said, “If it rains within the next two weeks, it will be good for the wheat, mustard and other crops. If it rains in February, it may cause damage to the ripened crop. It rained a little over the weekend. More rain will be good for the crops.”
