Bathinda, January 14
The cold weather claimed one more life in the city today. As per information received from an NGO, volunteers got to know about a homeless person lying unconscious outside a shop in the fish market near the railway station at 5 am.
When they reached the place, they observed that the person had died, possibly due to cold.
A team from the Kotwali police station reached the spot and sent the body to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem.
This is the fourth death due to cold weather reported in four days.
On Friday, volunteers of the NGO took an elderly man shivering on Maal Godaam Road to the emergency ward of the Civil Hospital but the doctors declared him brought dead.
As per the data released by the Agri-Met Department of the PAU’s regional centre in Bathinda, although the minimum temperature increased from yesterday’s 0.8 degree Celsius to be recorded at 4.6 degree Celsius, the maximum temperature fell from 19.5 degree Celsius to 16 degree Celsius today.
Since the difference between the minimum and maximum temperature decreased today, the intensity of cold weather remained the same.
The sun refused to shine throughout the day and the sky was covered by clouds.
As per the forecast released for Bathinda and its adjoining areas by the Indian Meteorological Department, similar weather conditions will prevail in the region over the next six days as the region will experience partly cloudy sky with haze.
