BATHINDA: Democratic Swaraj Party candidate Gian Chand Bansal filed his nomination papers for the Assembly elections from Bathinda (Urban) constituency today.

Democratic Swaraj Party candidate Gian Chand Bansal filed his nomination papers for the Assembly elections from Bathinda (Urban) constituency today.

Notably, it was the first day for filing nomination papers for the poll.

While talking to Bathinda Tribune, Gian Chand Bansal said he had filed his papers as a candidate of the Democratic Swaraj Party, which was a part of the Panjab Front, led by Patiala Member of Parliament Dr Dharamvira Gandhi.

He said he had been given the symbol of saw to cut down evil from its roots. Bansal claimed that after coming to power, they would uproot all social evils, including drugs.Bansal had earlier contested unsuccessfully as an Independent from Ward No. 12 in the Municipal Corporation election in 2015.

He was an active student union activities and remained secretary of the student union, Rajindra College, Bathinda. Later, he remained active in the trade union politics.

Notably, when Gian Chand Bansal entered the SDM office to file his nomination papers, various police officials started asking and noting down his details.

Mediapersons were not allowed to enter the Sub Divisional Magistrate office. Later, SDM Sakshi Sahney said, as per norms, only five people could come to file nomination papers.

“As you say this is not binding on mediapersons, I will cross-check it,” she added.

No candidate files papers in Mansa, Rampura

No candidate filed papers in three constituencies of Mansa district and Rampura Phul constituency on the first day of filing nomination papers.

Najar Singh Manshahia is contesting from Mansa on AAP ticket while Jagdeep Singh Nakai is contesting on SAD (B) ticket.The congress is yet to announce its candidate.

Sitting MLA Ajit Inder Singh Mofar is contesting from the Sardulgarh constituency on the Congress ticket while Dilraj Singh Bhundar on SAD (B) ticket. The Aam Aadmi Party has given ticket to Sukhwinder Singh Bhola Mann.
