Depot holder arrested for siphoning off foodgrain

BATHINDA: The Cantonment police arrested a depot holder for allegedly siphoning off foodgrain here today. The police said an investigation had been initiated after registering a case under Sections 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 7 of the EC Act against the accused.

The Cantonment police arrested a depot holder for allegedly siphoning off foodgrain here today.

The police said an investigation had been initiated after registering a case under Sections 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 7 of the EC Act against the accused.

The accused has been identified as Sandeep Kumar. Four bags of grain have been recovered from him.

The police have also taken a register and a licence into their possession. A local court sent the accused to judicial custody.

Iqbal Singh, SHO of the Cantonment police station, said they had received a tip-off that Sandeep Kumar, a resident of Model Town, Phase-II, Bathinda, had a government depot at Model Town, Phase-III, but he was not distributing the grain among the beneficiaries.

The SHO said the accused was selling flour after making it from grains.
