Bathinda, October 16

Following directions by the Northern Railway, the Railway Police Force (RPF) here has initiated an awareness campaign to stop people from clicking selfies on railway tracks.

The Railway Police Force have pasted a number of posters near railway tracks and outside the bogies to make people aware of its ‘No selfie please on the railway track’ campaign. Besides, RPF officials are also explaining the need for initiating the campaign to passengers.

While talking to Bathinda Tribune, Railway Police Force Sub-Inspector Yogesh Dahiya said, “Though no incident has been reported while clicking a selfie on railway tracks, we are careful that no such mishap takes place in future. If anyone is found clicking a selfie, a case under Section 147 of the Indian Railway Act can be registered. It pertains to trespassing across the railway tracks, which is a punishable offence. The punishment entails imprisonment up to six months or a fine up to Rs 1,000.”

Jyoti Kumari (12), a passenger, said, “People should take all precautions while clicking selfies at any place. We see freak accidents due to clicking selfies at many places. It is our life and first of all, we need to be careful.”
