Bathinda, December 11

With the city recording 4 mm rainfall today, the Meteorological Department has predicted light rain showers in the next 24 hours. The city received light intermittent rain, which started last night, throughout the day.

The maximum temperature recorded today was 15.8 degree Celsius, which was 11 degree below the temperature recorded yesterday.

The city today recorded minimum temperature at 11 degree Celsius, which was seven degree higher as compared to yesterday’s 4 degree Celsius.

Cold winds and the resultant frost can be attributed to the western disturbance which has caused fresh snowfall over the Himalayan region. The snowfall, in turn, has resulted in chilly winds over the plains in Northern India.

The winds blew at the speed of 1.7 kmph in the area today. The met office also predicted the possibility of more rain tomorrow as well. Due to this conditions will become more chilly, both during the day and the night. Temperatures will also witness a significant drop in coming days.

Power cut in various areas in the city were also reported today after the rain due to which people daily household works were delayed.

Weather is also showing its impact on the train services as many long-route trains are running behind schedule.

The railway authorities said it would be better if the passengers check the arrival and departure time of trains on the department’s website or call on the railway inquiry number before arriving at the stations.

With the dip in temperature, the sale of woollens has increased. The cold wave has also boosted sale of geysers, heaters, blowers and water heating rods.
