Farmer unions protested over the suicide by farmer Tek Singh of Jiyond village in Rampura Phool today.

A heavy police force had been deployed in Rampura by senior authorities.

Farmer unions demanded the arrest of commission agent Suresh Bahia during the protest outside the Rampura Sadar police station.

On the other hand, the commission agents union demanded the dismissal of case against commission agent Suresh Bahia during the protest outside the Rampura City police station.

Farmer Tek Singh, a resident of Jiyond village, was found unconscious and was declared dead by doctors on August 9. A case has been registered in the Rampura Sadar police station against Suresh Bahia, a commission agent of Rampura Phool on the behalf of suicide note and on the statement of farmer son Jagjeet Singh.

Farmers unions had been demanding the arrest of accused Suresh Bahia for the past two days. But today on the call of Commission Agent association all the markets of Rampura remained closed with demand of dismissal of case producing Suresh Bahia as an innocent.

Member of association first raised slogans against Punjab Police outside Rampura city police station and in the afternoon, they blocked Bathinda-Chandigarh highway. Seller association, Vaypar Mandal and some Congress leader also reached in the protest in the favour of Suresh Bahia.

Rakesh Bahia, brother of Suresh Bahia, told during the protest that we have pending money from farmer and trial of this case also going on in the court, but there is no hand of his brother in the death of farmer. He alleged that police have registered false case against his brother.

Commission Agent association threatened that if case will not dismiss, we will be held state levelled protest and Police will be responsible for it.

On the other hand, farmer have demanded the arrest of Suresh Bahia and also compensation to family of farmer until post mortem will not be conducted. SDM Rampura and SP of Bathinda police also reached the place. “We will continue our protest until the family receives justice,” a farmer leader said. — TNS
