Bathinda, August 13
Members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Sidhupur) continued their protest for the fifth day today.
They said they would not call off the protest till the state government accepted their demands.
Union president Baldev Singh said, “Union Minister and MP from Bathinda Harsimrat Kaur Badal had the time to visit the city to attend functions but she had no time to interact with us. We demand her resignation.”
Neither the state nor the Central government has shown any urgency to fullfil their demands, he added.
“During the five days of protest, three farmers have committed suicide. We don’t know when these politicians would acknowledge our worth, Baldev Singh said.
Leader Kaka Singh said, “Every day, the police take 10 to 15 farmers in custody and release them the next day. We will continue our protest against the Central and state government till our demands are fulfilled.”
“Tomorrow, we will launch a bigger protest as more farmers from adjoining districts are coming to join us,” he added.
