A major fire broke out in Aggarwal Corrugators India Private Limited, a card board factory located at Growth Centre, here last night. No casualty has been reported in the incident.

Thirteen fire tenders were put into service to control the fire. It was brought under control after 18 hours today around 6 pm.

After huge flames were seen at the factory, workers of nearby factories informed the fire brigade office.

According to the department, it received information around 10.30 pm and dispatched 13 fire tenders to the site.

Fire officer Kartar Singh said six fire tenders from Bathinda and seven from nearby areas were called in.

“The flames were put under control within two hours. In the morning we sent back seven fire tenders called from nearby areas,” he said.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, but it is suspected that it may have been caused by a short circuit or might due to some rocket or fire cracker.

The intensity of fire was such that even an iron beam bent and roof of the factory collapsed.

The whole machinery and the building except the administrative block have been affected.

“The exact amount of the loss is yet to be ascertained,” said Vipin Kumar, owner of the factory.
