Bathinda, February 16
The house of a poor labourer was gutted this afternoon following a short circuit and leakage from an LPG cylinder. No casualties were reported.
The incident occurred in the area of 25-yard houses in Dhobiana Basti. Panic gripped the area when the rooftop of the house burst due to fire. Fortunately, Rajinder Mandal and Ranjana Devi, who reside with their daughter in the one-room hut, were not present in the house when fire broke out. Residents said a small fire tender reached the place and helped in dousing the flames.
Meanwhile, the local unit of an NGO, Sarbat da Bhalla, has decided to help the family. “We have a scheme of building houses for the poor and help the needy by offering cash in form of monthly pension,” said Dr Kashish Gupta, NGO member. He said help would be extended to the family in the way they want.
