Five booked for clash at Central Jail

BATHINDA: The Nathana police have booked five undertrials for a clash that took place last night at Central Jail, Bathinda, which is located at Gobindpura village, 18 km from here.

Bathinda, August 14

The Nathana police have booked five undertrials for a clash that took place last night at Central Jail, Bathinda, which is located at Gobindpura village, 18 km from here.

The accused have been identified as Hardeep Singh, Deepak Kumar, Jaspreet Singh, Charanjeet Singh and Kulwinder Singh.

Investigating officer Jaidev Singh said the accused had been booked for assaulting Amrinder Singh Raju, a resident of Bhagi Vander village, and Harjeet Singh, a resident of Raipur. Both of them are undertrials.

Amrinder Singh Raju has been arrested under in the lynching case of Vinod Kumar alias Monu Arora.

The Talwandi Sabo police had booked Amrinder Singh Raju, along with his mother, brother and 10 others in the case. Amrinder Singh Raju was arrested on July 24.

As per sources, the accused had attacked Raju and Jagjeet with rods and other weapons when they were sleeping with 12 other undertrials.

Raju has received serious injuries on his head and Jagjeet is injured in his arm. They were taken to the Civil Hospital. — TNS

Today, the jail superintendent lodged a complaint with the Nathana police.

A case has been registered on the basis of a complaint by the jail superintendent under Sections 341, 342, 160, 323, 148 and 149 of the IPC and Public Property Damaging Act of 1984.

The reason of the attack has not been cleared by the police but they have added Sections 120B, which meant that the attack was planned.

A jail official, on condition of anonymity, said the clash took place over some old dispute between them.

Investigating officer Jaidev Singh said, “We will take the accused on production remand and investigate further. We are trying to talk to the injured Raju and Jagjeet.”
