Four held, 79 boxes of illicit liquor recovered

BATHINDA: The anti-liquor cell recovered 79 boxes of illicit liquor, three cars, a canter and a country-made pistol.

The anti-liquor cell recovered 79 boxes of illicit liquor, three cars, a canter and a country-made pistol. Three cases have been registered at Thermal and Talwandi Sabo police stations. The police have arrested four persons.

Tarjinder Singh, in charge of the anti-liquor cell, said acting on a tip-off, they have set up a naka on the Sivian road. They stopped a Swift car with a fake number of Delhi. During checking, seven boxes of illicit liquor were recovered from the car.

A canter was following the car carrying 43 boxes of illicit liquor. When the driver saw the police, he fled from the spot leaving the canter there. The police recovered 50 boxes of illicit liquor.

The police arrested Sukhdeep Singh, a resident of Phul. A case has been registered under the Excise Act at the Thermal police station.

The police also identified the canter driver named Jaggi. The accused brought the illicit liquor from Haryana.

In another case, the anti-liquor cell have arrested Balwant Singh, a resident of Dhilwan and Lakhwant Singh, a resident of Maari village, carrying 20 boxes of illicit liquor in a Honda City car (DL-6CT-0069) from Jagga Ram Tirath village.

Tarjinder Singh said the police also recovered a country-made pistol of .12 bore and a round. Both accused have been booked in close to dozen incidents of loot and snatching.

A case has been registered under the Excise Act and as well as 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.

The CIA-2 wing recovered nine boxes of illicit liquor from an Indica car (DL-03CW-5826) and arrested Nachatter Singh, a resident of Chanarthal. A case has been registered at the Maur police station.

Sethi Ram, a resident of Dhadde and Jugal Kishore, a resident of Kotkapura, have also been booked by the police.
