BATHINDA: Garbage dumps on roads in different corners of the city have become an eyesore for those residing in the area.

Garbage dumps on roads in different corners of the city have become an eyesore for those residing in the area. The Municipal Corporation has failed to fulfill its promise of clean city. The latest example is the 100-foot road near Malhi Hospital that produces unhygienic conditions for city residents and commuters.

The MC has failed to make Bathinda a dream city but the role of citizens in making the city beautiful is also negligible.

Piyara Singh, a shopkeeper on the 100 feet road, said, “The MC is installing dustbins in all colonies but rowdy elements have ‘’stolen’’ dustbins.”

Nikka, another resident, said, “The MC installed dustbins only for showcase because the dustbins were of very poor quality.”

Juginder Singh, a resident on the 100 feet road, said, “These dustbins were not fixed properly as stray cattle can easily break these bins.” He said if the MC had installed iron drums and fixed them with chains they could have saved Rs 10,000 behind one dustbin and the risk of theft was also very low.”

MCB officials said, “We are making all efforts to make the city clean but it is the responsibility of every citizen to keep the city clean and green. We will manage new dustbins in various areas of the city to get rid of this problem.”
