The defeat in the Gurdaspur by-poll has led to bickering between leaders of the SAD and the BJP with SAD leader and former CPS Sarup Chand Singla’s outburst against Modi over the alliance’s defeat. Now senior BJP leader and former Improvement Trust chairman Mohan Lal Garg has lashed out at Singla over his statement.
Mohan Lal Garg said the Congress candidate had won by 1.93 lakh votes. In SAD Assembly segments, the Congress had got a lead of 26,000 and 44,000 votes whereas in the BJP Assembly segments the Congress candidate got a lead of 6,800 and 11,000 votes.
Further, he said from the results it was clear that people were more annoyed and disappointed with SAD than BJP. He said it was clear that the BJP had lost the election due to Singla-like SAD leaders are the major reason. Garg said everybody in the state knew that each worker of the BJP advocated the snapping ties with the SAD.
Even other leaders of the BJP, like senior Deputy Mayor Tarsem Goyal, Deputy Mayor Gurinderpal Kaur Mangat and Gulzar Singh, also condemned the statement of Sarup Chand Singla.
It is pertinent to mention that on Sunday SAD leader and former CPS Sarup Chand Singla had claimed that SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal was not defeated in the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha bypoll but it was the defeat of the Narendra Modi-led BJP government due to its anti-people policies.
