Bathinda, January 16

Refuting all allegations levelled against him by his distant relatives, Bhupinder Singh Gora and his family members, Harminder Singh Jassi today stated that there was no land dispute with the Gora family and also that his name was being maligned to gain mileage by the former.

“They belong to the same village as mine and are my distant relatives. We are not involved in any kind of land and property dispute. Since Gora was also a ticket contender and he did not get the ticket, he is trying to level scores with me. I am just following the party high command’s decision. I wished to contest from the Bathinda constituency, but I was given the ticket from Maur,” he said.

Trying to convince other ticket contenders from the constituency, Jassi has been talking to Sukhraj Natt and Balkar Sidhu both of whom were also the ticket hopefuls from the constituency. Natt had even organised meetings of his supporters at his residence last week to gauge the response of the voters in case he decided to contest the elections as an Independent.

“I met Natt at his residence last evening and convinced him to support me. He showed some positive signs during our conversation and I am hopeful that he will not contest my candidature. We are all like an extended family and they are all my brothers. I will try my best to take everyone along during campaign and political career after that. balkar Sidhu was never against my candidature,” Jassi said.

Meanwhile, Jassi went door-to-door campaigning in the constituency on Monday as well. While partaking of langar organised in the market area to celebrate the occasion of Maghi, he addressed voters and said, “This is the right time to achieve change that we all have wanted for the past 10 years. In the name of developmental projects, all that the SAD-BJP alliance did was organises events and pocket money received from the Central government for various social welfare schemes.”

He further added that beneficiaries of the Shagun scheme, Atta-Dal scheme, old-age and physical disability pension schemes, scholarships for the students belonging to backward classes have all been left out in the cold by the state government in name of shortage of funds while the reality was that the Central Government released the funds and the state government embezzled the same.

Visit a formality: Natt

Talking about Jassi’s visit to his home, Natt said it was juat a formality completed by Jassi so that he could claim that he had tries to convince Natt. “He did not talk about anything political. He may claim that he tried to convince me but I stand by what I said earlier. Either he should get the Dera support Congress openly in Punjab else we will take a decison on January 17. Even if have to fight alone, i will do so on the basis of the support bank I have,” Natt said.

Rumblings in Cong over ticket distribution

Tension in the Congress is growing day by day as today ticket aspirants from various constituencies held a meeting and have given ultimatum to the party high command to change the party candidate till tomorrow evening.

In a press statement released by Bhupinder Singh Gora, a ticket aspirant from Maur claimed he along with Gursharan Kaur Randhawa (Samana), Jagtar Singh (Bathinda rural), Raman Bhalla (Pathankot), Hemraj Aggarwal (Ludhiana North), Naresh Puri (Sujanpur), Harmal Chand(Bhoa), Kulwant Singh (Atmanagar) and Manpreet Rubi (Rampura), participated in the meeting.

In the meeting, it was decided to give one-day time to the high command to discuss ticket allotment as they had been working in their constituencies but the high command given ticket to outsiders who could not win from these seats ever. They have also threatened that if by tomorrow any decision was taken by the party high command, then they would take their own decision and would announce their next course of action. Gora is opposing the allotment of ticket to Harminder Singh Jassi from Maur.
