Bathinda, May 16

A woman was gang-raped, videographed, blackmailed to repeatedly exploit her by her paternal uncle. She was also forced to undergo two abortions.

The police have booked eight persons in this regard following the orders of SSP Naveen Singla.

In her statement, the 32-year-old victim has said her husband had been in jail for the past five years.

She has been staying in Sirki Bazaar with her two kids.

She said in September 2016, she started doing a job at Vardhman factory.

Her shift was from 2 pm to 10 pm. During that period, she used to live at Bangi Nagar.

She has stated that on a day in December 2016, when she reached home after doing her duty around 11 pm, the bus dropped her at some distance from her house and she had to cover a little stretch on foot.

Her paternal uncle Manjit Singh was standing with some other persons on the road at that time.

Her uncle kept his hand on her mouth and they took her to an isolated place near the Sirsa railway line where four persons, including Manjit Singh and Dilpreet, raped her repeatedly and videographed the act, she added.

She also stated that later accused Manjit Singh threatened that they would kill her two kids if she disclosed the incident to anyone.

He also threatened to upload the video on the internet.

She said she reached her house at 2.30 am at night and the next morning again, Manjit Singh came to her house and showed her the video in his phone.

The victim stated Manjit blackmailed her and continued to rape her.

In January 2017, she got pregnant after which Manjit forced her to undergo abortion from doctor Gogi at Bangi Nagar, she said.

The victim said she also brought the matter to the notice of Manjit Singh’s wife.

She was surprised when the wife of the accused asked her to live with Manjit as husband and wife as she herself was unable to make physical relationship with him due to some problem.

She said in February 2017, Manjit Singh got her a rented house in the Sirki Bazaar area.

He told the house owner that the complainant was his wife and the kids were his own.

In March 2017, she again got pregnant. When the victim told Manjit about it, he started beating her up. Again, he forced her to go for abortion.

Later, her health started deteriorating. Manjit stopped coming to her place.

Later, she narrated the entire story to her sister and lodged a complaint with SSP Naveen Singla.

The SSP instructed the Canal Colony SHO to register a case in this regard.

The Canal Colony police have registered a case under Sections 376, 313, 506 and 120 B of the IPC against eight persons.
