Jail inmate attempts to commit suicide

An inmate of the Bathinda Central Jail allegedly tried to commit suicide by hanging himself inside the jail on the intervening night of April 15 and 16. As jail officials spotted him hanging, they immediately swung into action and saved him. He was taken to the jail hospital for treatment.

Jail Superintendent Vinny Tank informed the Nathana police about the incident. Thereafter, a case was registered against the inmate, identified as Prabhpal, a resident of Amritsar district. The police are yet to ascertain the reason why he tried to commit suicide.

Investigating officer Sukhdev Singh said the jail superintendent mentioned in his complaint that inmate Prabhpal was lodged in the Bathinda Central Jail who was arrested by the Amritsar police in a drug case in 2015.
