Jewellery worth Rs 4 lakh stolen

BATHINDA: Two cases of theft were registered in the district during the last 24 hours. In the first incident, Sewa Singh, a resident of the Mini Secretariat Road, lodged a police complaint stating that an unidentified miscreant stole jewellery worth Rs 4 lakh and Rs 14,000 in cash from his home last night.

A case has been registered at the Kotwali police station against an unidentified person under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC. Davinder Singh, SHO, said the victim was not at home when the robbery took place. He said investigation as under way in the case and the accused would be arrested soon. In another incident of theft, two unidentified accused stole a bag containing Rs 43,512 from Jatinder Singh, a resident of Bhagwangarh village, near HDFC bank in Rama Mandi. A case has been registered against unidentified accused under Sections 379 of the IPC. ASI Kuldeep Singh said the accused would be arrested soon. TNS

Woman kills self, husband held

Beant Kaur of Raikhana village committed suicide by hanging herself yesterday. She was allegedly being harassed by her husband, Kewal Singh. The police have arrested Kewal Singh and a case under Section 306 of the IPC has been registered against him. In a police complaint, the brother of the deceased, Jagga Singh of Pairo village in Mansa district, alleged that his sister, who was married to Kewal Singh a few years ago, was physically and mentally harassed by her husband due to which she ended her life. Investigating Officer Harmanjeet Singh said investigation in the case was under way. TNS

Saplings planted at school

In the campaign of planting maximum saplings with a motive to keep the environment clean and pure, under the aegis of Paramjeet Singh, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Bathinda, 30 plants were planted by Dr Mandeep Mittal, CJM/Secretary, DLSA, Bathinda. Amandeep Singh Grewal (advocate), Harjit Singh, principal,  school staff and students of Dasmesh Public School, Kotfatta, Bathinda, also participated in the campaign. TNS
