Lightning safety tips from administration

On the directions of the National Disaster Management Authority, the district administration today issued safety tips to be observed in case lightning strikes

In an advisory issued today, Deputy Commissioner Diprava Lakra said in case of lightning striking, mobile phones and other electronic devices should not be used. Similarly, electrical devices too should not be used when there is danger of the lightning striking.

The advisory said in case of lightning, one should not use water for washing hands, bathing, cleaning utensils or washing clothes. One should refrain from lying on a cemented floor or stand with the support of cemented walls.

The Deputy Commissioner said in case a person is outdoors, one should not stand under or near a tree. The lightning usually strikes tall buildings and structures and one should stay away from such objects.

He said if a person gets injured due to lightning, he should be given immediate treatment and can be touched physically. To deal with an emergency situation due to lightning, every household should have an emergency kit.
